Magazines for Boys
There’s no better way to catch your child’s attention than by handing him a glossy magazine filled with things he’s interested in. Chances are, he’ll probably start reading said magazine. He might even (GASP) enjoy it!
Magazine subscriptions are relatively cheap (reason #1 Why Boys Like Magazines!)

How do I get My Sons to Read This Summer?
Jack Prelutsky Helps Boys to Love Poetry
Engaging an active boy in poetry reading and writing may seem an impossible, even ridiculous undertaking. However, there are amazing resources available to help you learn how to get the active, aggressive and disruptive boy in your life to love poetry.

My Son Hates to Read!
I have a good friend who is the mother of three boys, ages ten, twelve, and fourteen. Corralling the ten year old and the twelve year old in order to get them to sit down to read a book is about as fun as trying to get your cat to love bathtime. It just doesn’t seem possible AND it’s an exhausting process. The boys sigh, they roll their eyes, and above all, complain, complain, complain. Their number one complaint? Reading is BORING.
Classroom Strategies to Get Boys Reading
A New Age of Literacy
Once upon a time, being literate meant being able to read and write. Centuries ago, literacy was only achieved by members of an elite, usually religious, class of males. (Yes! Boys once had the upper-hand in reading skills!) Copies of books had to be handwritten by scribes, so even if women and lower classes were literate, they wouldn't have had anything to read.
Getting My Husband Involved
Reading with my first born
I was like many other women out there - youthful, recently married, and ready to start my family. When my first born arrived, I wanted nothing more than for him, and his future siblings, to succeed in life. I felt obligated to read because I knew that someone needed to support and help them. As as I read with him each night, there was something bothering me, something that concerned me more and more as time passed by. I couldn’t help but worry that my husband was not as involved with reading as he should have been.
Teaching Our Children To Love Reading
Teaching Our Children To Love Reading
When I was a child my parents would say to me all the time how important reading was. I was one of those lucky kids that while my parents both worked full time they always took the time to sit with us and read and help with homework. My mother was in nursing school at the time and working to pay for her education. My dad worked full time in another state so his hours were also very long. But that never kept them from making sure us three kids were getting the education and help at home that we needed. I will forever be thankful for this.
I now have children of my own and teach them the importance of reading. From reading daily with them to being there to get through the homework. All are great students and I cherish this time as I know it will not last long.
